Whether you’re going through a hazy transition or simmering with the big questions of life, the practice of peace and “white space” in our art & life can help us sail those seas with clarity, inspiration and strength. In this workshop, we’ll fuse the great powers of meditation and art journaling and travel inwards towards the Beautiful You and the answers you seek.

with Bebe Butler

She has produced online meditations for a spiritual tv show called “Release Your Wings” for the last five years and has been swimming in the sea of art journaling for the past 6. Beth Morey, featured contributor for Spectrum 2016 Holistic Creative WorkshopEmpowering Yourself Through Creativity

Are you ready to reclaim your power, inner strength, and courage? In this workshop, we will dive into writing and movement exercises to help you tap back into the wild nature that resides within you, powerful and untamed even in the face of all this world has thrown at you. You will learn tips on how to find your words, unleash your voice, and trust your intuition — all while having a damn good time and creating some luscious poetry.

And don’t let the word “poetry” scare you — we’ll be tackling the process in a wholly accessible and empowering manner so that even the rustiest, most dubious non-writer will find herself staring down in wonder at a fresh poem penned by her own hand. Get ready to (re)introduce yourself to empowered self.

with Beth Morey

Beth Morey writes, paints, and dreams in Montana.  She is the author of Night Cycles and The Light Between Us and more, and is also the owner of Epiphany Art Studio.  Her words and art have appeared in various publications, such as Somerset Studio, to linger on hot coals, Still Standing Magazine, Wild Goslings, and Disney’s Family Fun.  In addition to her quirky little family and their three naughty dogs, Beth is in love with luscious color, moon-gazing, and dancing wild.  For inspiration and support for your creative journey, visit Beth at her website, She of the Wild.

Briana Goetzen, featured contributor for Spectrum 2016 Holistic Creative WorkshopForgiveness Art Cards: Artful Reminders for Self-Forgiveness, Asking for Forgiveness, and Accepting an Apology

Participants will create several painted papers, using acrylic paint, crayons, and stencils. These colorful papers will then be cut and collaged into a set of Forgiveness Art posters. The 8.5×11 posters can be displayed as is, or may be scanned, resized, and printed into smaller cards to carry.

Forgiveness is such a challenging, yet powerful part of healing and wellness. Forgiving is a gift to yourself, not necessarily to the person you need to forgive. And guess what? We all make mistakes, and sometimes we even need to forgive ourselves. This workshop will give you the opportunity to reflect on any forgiveness work you might need to do on yourself, or toward others. You will write, paint, cut and collage your way through your personal journey toward forgiveness. The completed cards will be fantastic reminders on how to forgive yourself, how to ask for forgiveness when you make a mistake or hurt someone, and how to graciously accept an apology.

Elloa Atkinson, featured contributor for Spectrum 2016 Holistic Creative WorkshopUnapologetically You: Finding Freedom, Joy + Play through Fearless Expression

It takes huge courage to brave the vulnerability of showing up to your relationships, creativity and life with no hiding and no holding back — especially when you are a soulful and sensitive person who feels things deeply, gets scared almost daily and is no stranger to shame or insecurity.

And yet… this is the life that calls you: a life of daring, of dreaming, of authentic and unapologetic self-expression. A life of intimacy and truth.

Kelly Johnson, featured contributor for Spectrum 2016 Holistic Creative WorkshopExpressing Your Sensory Connections with Nature Using Shape, Form, and Color

Drawing nature is all about discovering how to see your natural world with wonder filled eyes. Observing and drawing deepens our connections with the nearby nature right outside our doors. It strengthens our bond with, and understanding of, the cycles and rhythms of life. We must only slow down and open up to nature’s whispers to be rewarded with sparked wonder and creative connection. Nature patiently awaits us.

Organic and geometric forms guide this project as you explore shape, line, and color to create and expression of how you feel when connecting with the natural world. In the journal, we will create an expression of the way that the nature makes you feel using the colors and forms that make up the natural objects you actually see.

with Kelly Johnson

Kelly Johnson is an artist, author, nature journaling guide, and Montessori children’s garden educator living in Neptune Beach, Florida. A graduate of Goddard College (MA), the Savannah College of Art and Design (BFA), and the Florida Institute of Montessori Studies (AMS 6-9), Kelly shares her love of art and nature through her books, articles, blog, illustrations, workshops, consultations, and eCourses – all growing within her socially and environmentally responsible company Wings, Worms, and Wonder.

Sprouted from a creative farming and water loving family, Kelly guides humans to connect with the natural world through the arts and gardening. When she isn’t playing in the dirt with kids, teaching, writing, or painting, you’ll find Kelly and her sidekick Sean surfing, snowboarding, riding their beach cruisers, baking vegan treats, sewing, painting murals, and exploring the world.

Kristina "Kitty" Oppegard, featured contributor for Spectrum 2016 Holistic Creative WorkshopGOOD MEDICINE
The art of falling apart…

“… I won’t fall completely if I follow the lines… Because this thing about falling apart it doesn’t go away, time doesn’t have that magic….” -John Trudell Native American Poet/Artist/Activist

Journey with me as we fall apart. When we confront this within our art work we are doing sacred work within our soul stories.

This is the good medicine we need, to follow the lines of our lives.
We’ve all had to navigate through the storms of life.
Personal or external grief or both.
We all have our stories to tell…
Let’s push the ink to the paper to the paint.
Let’s fall apart & let good medicine piece us back together.
Lift the often heavy burdens of uncertainty and fear and face them head on with good medicine.

Course requirement: a sense a humor! Not easily offended by a possible cuss word (or two) and a willingness to let your lines get: crossed, pooled, dripped, spilled over to reveal nothing and everything all at once!

So honored to hold this space for you to come get some Good Medicine with me!

with Kristina “Kitty” Oppegard

Native American Mixed Media Artist living in the Central Coast of California in the heart of Wine Country.

In addition to hosting workshops in her home, she has contributed to courses online such as 21 secrets with Connie Solera & Soul Food with Mystele Kirkeeng, as well as had her artwork appear in “A World of Artist Journal Pages,” by Dawn DeVries Sokol.

Kitty’s art is heavily influenced by her deep connection to the power of the written word. Through poetry and song she finds links to the hidden aspects of our soul stories. Through ink meeting paint she has found a way to connect her stories that need to be told through engaging portrait pieces. Found pictures and discarded scraps often find places in her journals and canvases.

All art is done with healing intention and in honor of The Great Mother, and to all her relations. Of Shoshone Native American decent, she continues to grow her native roots and wants to reflect this in her ongoing works for planetary healing.

Malini Parker, featured contributor for Spectrum 2016 Holistic Creative WorkshopKEEP CALM AND MAKE ART

“Life is ten percent what happens to me and ninety percent how I react to it.” –Chuck Swindoll

We’ve all heard variations of the idea that our attitude and responses to life are FAR more important that what actually happens to us. But so much of the time, we are still knocked about by the UNCERTAINTY of it all! We grapple to find ways to trust and let go, only to find that we still feel battered about by the stormy seas of life. I think we need a kind and gentle way to navigate these ‘stormy seas’ and what better way than to use our creativity to guide us? In this workshop, I will share my own experiences of learning from art, how to trust, accept and let go of our attachment to outcomes, and in doing so, become increasingly able to be calm in the face of life’s uncertainties.

with Malini Parker

Malini describes her life as an incredible, wonderful, complicated adventure!  The professional part began in medical research, wended its way through the performing arts, and settled into visual art. Her paintings are fluid and organic abstractions, joyful celebrations of life, inspired by the journey from Adversity to Grace, and all the precious learning that is acquired along the way.

From her home in the most isolated city in the world – Perth, Western Australia – she is honoured that her work has encircled the globe and is now featured in public and private collections all over the world. Along the way, she’s been fortunate enough to have won some art awards and shown her work in eight solo exhibitions.

Malini finds that one of her greatest joys now comes from teaching and sharing her ideas on painting and life in her popular live workshops. She finds it an incredible honour to be part of another’s creative journey, and the delight she witnesses in her students as they rediscover their art, reinforces her belief that creativity has magical powers 🙂

Meghan Genge, featured contributor for Spectrum 2016 Holistic Creative WorkshopMother Tree: The art of seeing the forest and the trees

There are times in our lives when the questions we hold in our hearts are bigger than our human connections. There are times when we don’t have the words or even the emotions to explain or share what is happening in our hearts. It is at times like this that it is important to have a connection with a spirit that is deeper, richer, older and wiser than we are. While many of us are drawn to and feel a healing connection amongst the trees, there is much more to the woods than meets the eye. Forests are complex eco-systems, and – as it turns out – even more deeply connected than we ever imagined. This workshop is about enhancing your resilience and remembering your connection – all supported and held and witnessed by not just the forest – but a mother tree. We’ll be walking, writing and doing a lot of sitting, but mostly we’ll be remembering who we are.

with Meghan Genge

I am a writer, a teacher, a finder of magic, and the author of the inspirational novel: Unfurl. At the beginning of 2015 my husband and I took a huge leap of faith and followed our hearts and our dreams from the UK to southern Costa Rica.

I believe in words as spells, the healing power of tea, that beauty is transformative, and that we are all tiny pieces of the Divine having a human experience. When I am not helping to create our dream space, listening in awe to Howler Monkeys, or learning how to trap spiders under Tupperware, I can usually be found dreaming up new places to lead retreats and writing my next book.

Melissa Harris, featured contributor for Spectrum 2016 Holistic Creative WorkshopFinding and Maintaining Creative Inspiration

I love helping people find ways to engage with art.  Perhaps  you yearn to create but can’t find your way in.  I’m sure that your heart is full of all sorts of life experiences.  Wouldn’t it be great to be able to express these experiences?   In my  workshop I share exercises and methods  from my own creative toolbox to lead you to your own jumping off place.  You can use any number  of different mediums to find joy in your own unique, organic creations by combining some of these fun tips.  Some of these can be set up as on-going projects that you can add to at your leisure and others will be quick instant gratification expressions.  Let’s Play!

with Melissa Harris

Greetings!  I’ve been making art since I was able to hold a crayon.  In fact that was the only way my parents could shut me up!  I experienced a profound Shakti awakening in my early 20’s, leading to a strong connection with Source energy. I began channeling and doing energy work and wanted to find ways to combine my healing work with art.  To that end I’ve written 2 books; including “99 Keys to a Creative Life”, addressing the connection between creativity and spirituality. I’ve created my own card deck to hopefully provide guidance as folks move forward on their path.  I am also the artist of the Goddess on the Go affirmation card deck. My greatest passions are painting and helping others to connect with their own inner selves through creativity.  I hope this workshop nurtures you in just the ways that you need to support your inner and outer worlds.

Since making art is one of the primary things that bring me the most joy I hope to spread some of that fire to you by suggesting some of the tools I use to keep my own creative flow moving.

Petrea Hansen-Adimidis, featured contributor for Spectrum 2016 Holistic Creative WorkshopWindows To Your Soul

They say that the eyes are the windows to our souls, that by looking at or through someone’s eyes we can discover their inner essence.  Explore the inner depths of your true self through the visual metaphor of the window.  When we look through windows, they frame our perspective. We look into windows to glimpse inside. What if the windows we look through were an entrance into the unknown or unclaimed parts of ourselves? What if through the window we could rediscover our inner beauty?  Come journey into the windows of your soul to uncover and express your truth in this art journaling workshop. We will use guided meditation, intuitive prompts and mixed media to discover what lies beyond the window frame and behind closed curtains.

with Petrea Hansen-Adamidis

Petrea Hansen-Adamidis is an artist, truth seeker and meditation weaver. Her approach to art making is very organic, allowing the materials and colors to call to her and the subject to unfold at will.  Believing deeply that we all have the tools within us to live a happy and fulfilled life no matter what our past experiences or present challenges, Petrea harnesses the power of creativity to guide others toward their inner wisdom.

Petrea is also a registered art therapist who has guided others to express, release and connect through art making for over 20 years. She encourages others to find their inner muse through creative process using guided imagery, workshops and e-courses she has developed to draw the self out.

Suki Kapinao, featured contributor for Spectrum 2016 Holistic Creative WorkshopSoul Immersion: A Self Care Deep Dive~Journey as Your Mermaid Self

I will lead us on a guided visualized journey into the dreamtime and down into the sea to swim in the depths of our inner consciousness where we will shape-shift into our mermaid selves for a magical encounter with benevolent creatures of the deep- like the Octopus of Strong Wisdom, whom we can ask a question of and then we will swim down to the Cave of the Deep to bathe in healing light and feel a sense of renewal and healing on a cellular level. Then we will swim with the jellyfish that connect us to our higher selves, and ask for hugs from humpback whales,or dolphins or whatever beings come to be with us here in our own private, peaceful underwater sanctuary.

Returning to the land and resting on the warm sand and feeling held by the earth, we will journal our journey by painting out our dream and depicting our experience and the gifts of who we met there in words and imagery with luscious colors and shapes, bringing back the wisdom from the deep of ourselves, knowing we can visit anytime we need it, to bask in our ocean of wisdom, and practice magical self care.

with Suki Ka’Pinao

My work celebrates the colors and textures of the natural world which I am deeply inspired by – especially the sea and the mountains. My art celebrates the fertile mystery of this life in all its abundance and beauty, and also in the magical realms of the spirit and wisdom of the dreamtime.

My service in this life is teaching art to people of different and exceptional abilities and challenges who constantly inspire me and make my heart sing. My own children- who both have special needs are my greatest teachers. I live in the Green Mountains of Vermont, and visit the ocean frequently. I have a tropical soul, and Irish heart and a strong sense of wonder and gratitude to be alive and continually growing towards my soul’s calling. I call myself a shamanic art coach and love helping others access their inner wisdom through a bridge of art and shamanic practices.

Tara Leaver, featured contributor for Spectrum 2016 Holistic Creative WorkshopCalm from Chaos

When life feels crazy and overwhelming and it seems as though the studio will have to wait, sometimes that’s the best time to carve out a little space for ourselves to breathe and slow down for a moment. In this workshop we’ll recreate the chaos we might be feeling inside on the page, and then use a simple technique to introduce calm as a way to bring ourselves back to the present and find ourselves again. Making art is a sensory experience, so we’ll be setting the scene to nurture all our senses, which helps to bring us back to the body and the here and now. I’ll show you how to personalise the experience to fit your uniqueness, and bring a sense of your power back with conscious choices and an opportunity to recalibrate yourself with paint.

with Tara Leaver

Tara Leaver is an artist, teacher, writer and creative guide, working from her attic studio by the sea on the south coast of England. She writes about art and creativity on her blog and in her book Creative Spark, and runs online courses which support different aspects of the creative experience, with a focus on uncovering and developing your natural and unique artistic expression. Her work is mostly about encouraging experimentation with art as self expression and self discovery, and creativity as a lifestyle instead of something that always drops off the end of the to do list. When she’s not in the studio, you’ll most likely find her down at the beach finding heart stones and taking photos.

Deborah J Milton, returning contributor for Spectrum 2016An Introduction to Ecstatic Wisdom Postures: Good Medicine for our Time with Deborah J Milton

We are being called to evolve as a species. We’re being asked to remember our interconnectedness with all things, to redefine what makes life meaningful, to reanimate our imaginative, intuitive brains so that our logical, analytical brains can work in harmony with our wiser bodymind. In short, we’re being asked to re-story ourSelves and our culture. Ecstatic Wisdom Postures (EWP) contribute to our new storyline by offering a direct path to personal experience with the spirit world. Discovered by anthropologist Felicitas D. Goodman, EWP is an embodied spiritual practice based on global art-ifacts. We simply hold a posture based on an image of an ancient pose for fifteen minutes while listening to rhythmic stimulation – drum/rattle. This combination reliably expands our consciousness in very specific ways allowing  us to glimpse the invisible realities supporting the world of matter. This expanded awareness allows us to feel ecstasy – a felt-sense of connection with Great Mystery which inspires awe.

In this class, I will provide everything you need to experience one of these poses. I’ll also give you a step by step guide for hosting a group in your own home. I recommend group work highly – more energy, more magic and more awe-inspired wisdom comes through when working together.

When I moved from Pennsylvania to Montana in 1980, the western wild ripped me open to the juicy, risk-taking adventurer buried beneath my intellect and conformity. In Missoula, I served as a psychotherapist for a decade ( I have a PhD in Human Development ) before taking my own advice to “follow my belly’s wisdom.” Spending two months in solitude in 1993, I reclaimed my childhood dream of being an artist at the same time Ecstatic Wisdom Postures (EWP) found me. An embodied spiritual practice based on our ancestors’ art-ifacts discovered by anthropologist Felicitas D. Goodman, EWP has provided vision, awakening, endless inspiration and a reliable compass for my own journey. I was certified to teach them in 1996. In 1999, I established Athanor Arts, my own creativity center contiguous with wild lands but six years ago moved to Bainbridge Island, WA following one of my adult daughters. Now, all four of my adult children and their families live nearby. Here, my Posture practice continues along with painting. For the last year I’ve been compelled to paint the Many Faces of Gaia, imagery enlarged by the experience of Ecstatic Wisdom Postures. Rich blessings indeed.

Galia Alena, returning contributor for Spectrum 2016Archetype Exploration with Galia Alena

Galia Alena- Visual Poet:

I’m a beauty unveiler, light huntress, moment caresser and visionary poetess.
Ultimately, all of my work is about helping people peel back the layers to experience the intense beauty of each moment allowing access to both their intuitive wisdom and a deeper connection to spirit and self.
(Because the beauty of this life cracks our hearts open and it is through the cracks that light can flow both in and out and connect us back to our divine selves)
That is what I do and I do it through photography, art, journaling, intuitive healing, tarot and teaching.

Gloria Gypsy, returning contributor for Spectrum 2016Souldala, your cosmic diagram of the soul with Gloria Gypsy

My aim is to provoke the viewer to delve deep within each piece and therefore deeper into their own psyche, perhaps observing or experiencing emotions that are not clearly apparent at first glance.” – Gloria Gypsy

How do you implement creativity and the sacred in your life?

Seeking to reclaim the practices and traditions of sacred art as a tool for supporting connection, spiritual growth, and healing; in re-establishing the traditional connection between sacred art and inner work (prayer, meditation, visualization, and other forms of spiritual practice).

As a workshop facilitator, intuitive, and sacred artist my teaching and intuitive painting infuses a deep connection to heart, mind, and spirit. In honoring intuition, self-discovery and sacred space I believe that each individual holds healing power within themselves. It is my intention to guide the seeker to their own inner healing and strength.

Maya Zaido, returning contributor for Spectrum 2016Creature teacher support for journaling with Maya Zaido

Discover which creature teacher would like to help support you in bravely showing up for your journaling time. Follow my gentle lead in this short video to meet your new helper and then use my simple technique in your own mindful, quiet time to continue developing your relationship with your animal spirit guide and journaling practice.

Maya Zaido, writer & guide

Journaling allows us to reconnect with our unique soul’s knowing and rewrite what no longer serves the heart. Writing, shared with trusted community in co-created safe space, can help us let go of shame and be truly seen, in love.

As memoirist and guide, I believe trauma is the teacher we need to practice listening to. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can be a direct route back to rebuilding relationship with, and trust in, Self. I share my journey with Complex PTSD and my loving animal council of guides, openly, to re-instill hope where so many of us feel alone.

Michelle Turbide, returning contributor for Spectrum 2016Befriending Your Protector with Michelle Turbide

from her 2014 Spectrum workshop

I am an artist, seeker, and observer. My work is about the transformation of the soul through lived experiences that change, evolve, and grow us. The foundation of my art focuses not only on color, texture, and subject matter but the energy, mystery, and emotion behind the work. My process involves entering a state of liminal space and collective unconscious and excavating a visual narrative that holds the energy of the experience. It is a sensual, kinesthetic, and visual process in which I listen deeply to intuition and inspiration. Art is where I explore the questions, messages, and great paradoxes of life. I believe that through the process of creation we nurture, heal, challenge, and grow ourselves. I paint from my home studio in Vermont and I share my work, teachings, and inspiration in person and on-line.

Arna Baartz, returning contributor for Spectrum 2016ART to Self with Arna Baartz

I am a BIG believer in freedom of expression and connection to all that is, in all honesty, art has been my best friend along the way. Art has permeated my parenting of eight gorgeous humans, my emotional intelligence work with children and my personal development business, oh and so much more! Through art I have come to know myself, art has tickled me open and allowed the energy of the universe, of who I really am, to pour through and enliven me!
We are All creative beings and we all deserve to remember who we are, I wish to create images that trigger awakening and joy in those who view them. My art is mixed in the same jug as the intention of unconditional love, so if you feel that warming in your eyes you must not be surprised.
Come in and splash some colour around, ask me questions, tell me your stories, show me your work. I hope I can provide you the impetus to pick up a brush or pencil, if you have been hesitating it is now time to make your mark!

I am a creative explorer and joy warrior, living a life of magical possibilities in the Midwest US with my family. In addition to teaching yoga, I paint, write, take pictures, knit and sew. These are the ways I practice mindfulness and celebrate the details of my life. My background is Art and Art History and I am fascinated by the ways art connects us to our inner stories and outer histories and backgrounds. For me, creative action is how I connect with Source, with Spirit.  I am interested in the process of partnering with divine inspiration, contributing to that conversation, and welcoming the insights that always follow.  My greatest teacher is my daughter (a master of the Dragon) whose own artwork inspires within me playfulness, curiosity, and discovery.

I am a self taught mixed media artist. I started painting at 40 years old after leaving my teaching career. I am also a certified Life Coach and offer online and in person, healing art courses. I am firm believer in the healing power of art. I work with women who have experienced childhood pain and have done quite a bit of healing work and are ready for a life beyond survival. I also paint for a living. I believe each of my paintings inspires healing. I love to paint the faces and aspects of the feminine in many of its manifestations. Through vibrant color and a whimsical style, my art reflects the joy, sadness, longing, beauty, and the power of being a fully alive woman.

Tracy Verdugo, returning contributor for Spectrum 2016The Gift of Woman with Tracy Verdugo

The universal theme of connection underlies all of my work; connection to each other and the ways in which we express our humanity; connection with the natural world and the beauty that surrounds us; connection with the divine and a sense of something greater at work in our lives. My paintings are often created intuitively and I am often surprised at the finished piece. I am inspired by our travels in Mexico and the colors, exuberance of Spirit and magical experiences I have shared with my family there. I love texture and the sensuality, rhythm and pattern of fabrics and often incorporate these mixed media elements into my work. I believe that we are all part of an intricate and breathtaking tapestry. Our only choice in each moment is whether to be a part of the creating or a part of the unraveling.

Amazing, right?!
