When the heart is ready for a fresh beginning, unforeseen things can emerge. And in a sense, this is exactly what a beginning does. It is an opening for surprises. Surrounding the intention and the act of beginning, there are always possibilities. This inevitably excites artists. So much can actually happen between the moment the brush is taken into the hand and the moment it touches canvas. Such beginnings have their own mind, and they invite and unveil new gifts and arrivals in one’s life. Beginnings are new horizons that want to be seen; they are not regressions or repetitions. Somehow they win clearance and become fiercely free of the grip of the past. What is the new horizon in you that wants to be seen?
~ John O’Donohue
We know that our attitudes and perceptions can alter our internal chemistry, thus altering our cells and activating genes, and through a cascade of response, our embodied experience.
Likewise, intentional engagement with our creative process can alter our attitudes and perceptions, bringing us into an intimate relationship of self-inquiry and transformation through play, awareness, curiosity, expressive risk-taking and practice.
Our attitudes and perceptions, even our beliefs, are choices we make, and every moment offers a new horizon for beginning, for choosing how we see, relate and respond.
Underneath the paint on the pages above is a playful exploration of how our creative practice can be seen like the basic structure of our cells – living its purpose in spite of us, thriving, growing, becoming, where beginnings and endings are two sides of the same coin, healing by its very nature – and both amplified for an experience of VITALITY when we slow down and relate with it, shining the light of considered intention upon it. I share more on this in the first pdf in Spectrum going out in just a few days.
